The Art of Seeing: Sightlines of Life

Raised by parents of both artistic and engineering backgrounds, Jackie couldn’t help but be drawn to the why and how of her surroundings. Her curiosity in the process of art led her to delve into forms of photography from the 1800s and early 20th century while getting her BFA at Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her interest in theatre while there challenged her to design, build, and paint sets for numerous community theatre companies and high school productions. Because of her various art/photography interests she created a custom backdrop company, Sightlines, that supplied commercial photography studios with backgrounds for advertising products, such as Target. She later started another company, Paint Designs, which produced high end surface textures for residential and commercial clients. Jackie also partnered with husband Stephen to create videos for websites and social media, AMS Digital Productions, and she has produced many videos for businesses, non-profits and artists alike. Currently Jackie is painting with mixed media and incorporating photographs and 3d materials in her images.

Jackie lives in the midst of the glacial moraine of west central Minnesota and is captivated by the textures of woods, lakes, and prairie that surround her. Through a blend of photography, paints, plasters, and natural materials, she aim’s to spark curiosity in the viewer, inviting them to explore deeper into her subjects.

Artist Statement

“My work draws inspiration from the landscapes I encounter, whether shaped by nature or human hands. I strive to capture and convey the visual and tactile beauty that I observe. The ever-changing seasons, the cycles of life, and nature's intricate designs profoundly influence my art. I believe we must look more closely at the ordinary, questioning whether what we see is merely surface-level or a gateway to deeper understanding.”
